Lane Foods on 114 Brick Lane was denied a 24 hr license agreement yesterday at a Tower Hamlets council meeting because of environmental health issues. Police and environmental health officers advise that should a small enterprise as such be allowed to operate to the early hours of the morning then this would encourage anti-social behavior and have an impact on the safety of the residents and police officers in the area.

However, there is no other off-license open past 2 am in the vicinity and people have no other choice but to walk all the way to Whitechapel or Bethnal Green. Even so, police, council and environmental health officers agreed a 24hr off license would attract street drinkers, problem drinkers and drinkers from other bars. “A 24 hr off license would only encourage disorder in the area,” explained Sgt Nick Parsons. Be that as it may the council still agreed to grant Lane Foods their application in part by licensing them to sell alcohol between the hours of 9 am and 12 am weekly with exception of a Sunday where the shop would have to stop selling alcohol by 11pm.

So, the iplayer. is pretty fantastic. Why does it work only in the UK? It would be nice if other countries could also enjoy the iplayer, would educate a lot of people. Would be good. Anyway, I’ve started to develop a thing for videos and video footage. Lately I’ve been spending hours on iplayer watching things as far apart as for example the house of commons and the eggheads, but also loads of documentaries, I watched something about suburbia, sharks, urangutans, canoeing from australia to new zealand in 30 days where this crazy man dies in the end, i’ve been watching it a lot. It’s truly amazing that we can portray things in such a good way. Visual stimulation is probably the best kind of stimulation out there. if you have eyes. Anyway aside from ‘all hail the iPlayer’ I wanted to focus on video as a form of journalism, obviously the two go quite well hand in hand and are perfect for each other but video footage, albeit being immensely useful and helpful in the portraying of a message is quite a conventional form of media, in the sense that is quite common for us to make videos to let the world know whats going on, so using video footage becomes quite conventional and thus it is harder and there is less room for people to create something which will shun and stun everyone, or which will be of immense significance and rank well above the average, but I was thinking, every thing, almost everything on iplayer is made well. The BBC are brilliant with videos, it is no suprise that their films are so incredbily expensive. I once watched a video of A Doll’s House made by BBC which was quite old and the time costed what is now the equivalent of maybe 50 euros. Quite incredible really even though it can be bought on ebay now for seven pounds. Anyway, I wanted to say that the bbc iplayer has thoroughly inspired me to start making videos. It has served to show how well ideas and messeges can be portrayed and is living proof of how much can be covered in just 50 minutes. So take your camcorders out and start making videos, You could earn a fortune.

hmmmm… where should i start, the papers have been quite boring lately, nothing incredibly interesting apart from the snow thing thats been happening in london. i bought the times the other day, on the third, because it looked pretty, and i think i might keep it, i used to buy three or four newspapers a day, read them then stack them but after having so many bundelled together they lose their significance. but this edition of the times is a particularly pretty one, with the times logo and a picture of a snowy big ben with the mist and everything. i’ll take a better picture soon..

anyway, about the snow, so what – exactly happened? why did the whle of london come to a halt on monday morning, i swear there was not that much snow.. but then the tubes stopped working, and the buses stopped running, and classes got cancelled and there were long, really really long queues in tescos cuz noone showed up to work, what happened?? i thought london was supposed to be london at all the time, cafe 1001 was quite empty, i’m sure it would’ve been more lively if the tube was running, but these are just my encounters with the snow.. highway m25 had queues miles long, hundreds of flights were cancelled, my friend who i havent seen in over four years called me up – said she was stuck in gatwick because of the snow, to be honest i’m a bit upset.

but i’m not upset only because things stopped working, but the overall attitude of newspapers, people, and how it was generally absorbed was i mean quite frankly, a bit ridiculous. the times says that people were buying ready meals, soups amid fears that supply lines could be affected. crazy, food doesnt run out any more, its not the third century, theres tons of it, and everywhere, none for snow ridden londonders apparently, thats why everyone is stackin up on food now, theres no snow in africa n people dont have food.. but also, this is a quote, “conditions were due to become even more treacherous last night as temperatures fell below freezing turning the slush to ice”, thats what happens when temperatures fall below the freezing point, thing start to freeze, and its not that bad, i promise u, just sprinkle a little salt and it will melt..
